The huge amount of data transmitted by vehicles can benefit consumers, but only if they know what data is being collected and can control where it goes. If automakers decide, consumers lose the right to choose where they get their vehicle repaired, are limited in the parts they can use and have restrictions on what data can be accessed to repair their car.
The Auto Care Association believes that vehicle data belongs to, and should be controlled by, the car owner. It's their car, it should be their data, and they should know what data is being collected, have freedom to access it, and control where their car sends data and how it's used.
Here's what we're doing about it.
