Vehicle Configuration Database (VCdb) Coverage Update

by Milt Grimes, lead ACES analyst

If you’ve ever thought the standards team here at the Auto Care Association is satisfied with the speed of delivery and the data content being provided in the Vehicle Configuration database (VCdb), we’re here to tell you otherwise!

Over the last few years, we’ve sped up the research process to deliver new model coverage before the vehicles hit the showroom floors, delivered stage 4 attribute details faster than ever before and highlighted four new regions to the Latin America VCdb, for a total of 11 regions in Central and South America.

Well, it’s been about a year since we announced those four new regions for the Latin America VCdb.  We’re happy to report that six more regions are being added to the Latin America VCdb as research is completed. Our new regions are El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela, which brings our region count up to 17 with more to come! In the last six months, we have added 714  unique light duty vehicles covering model years 1987-2023.

Let’s talk speed to market on new vehicle model year research. Just a reminder that as of this writing, the date on the calendar still reads June 2023, but we’re thrilled to report we have added 60% of the new 2024 model year light duty vehicles for the U.S. region thus far, and over 60% of those are already at stage 4 in the research process!

How about new vehicle types being added to the VCdb? Well, by any chance do you have parts that fit or customers looking for parts for any of the following vehicle types?

Motorhome/recreational and multipurpose military vehicles have been added to the North America medium and heavy duty truck VCdb and stand-alone medium/heavy duty engines have been added to the North America Off-Highway and Equipment VCdb.

A special thank you to our partners, Integrated Data Facts (IDF), MOTOR Information Systems and our research team here at Auto Care, which have been instrumental in providing great content for the Latin American countries along with new model year vehicles and new vehicle type groups.
